Reading Inspires Thinking and Writing Shapes Leaders

Mrs. Burtera

I am truly blessed to be a part of the Enrichments family. I possess a master’s degree in education, specializing in Reading. During my time working in public education, I was certified as a Gifted and Talented teacher, as well as an English as a Second Language instructor.

My 31 years of extensive experience across diverse educational settings have shaped my approach to teaching and learning.

My goal in Reading classes is to help students develop stronger reading skills and to introduce them to quality literature. I believe that fostering a love for reading is just as important as building foundational skills.

In writing, my first priority is to instill correct grammar in their writing. Students will be asked to edit and revise work on their end of year tests and on the SAT. I also emphasize writing various types of essays to help students become versatile writers. Additionally, I focus on Constructed Extended Responses (CERs) and Extended Constructed Responses (ECRs), as students will be assessed using these formats. Lately, I noticed students seem to struggle with vocabulary. I will also incorporate vocabulary in writing and reading.

I strive to assign homework every week. In reading, students have assigned texts that they are expected to read, often more than once. This repeated reading is intended to prepare them for meaningful class discussions about their reading assignments.
